Selena Gomez is declaring her independence as a confident 23 year old woman.  She

Recently released her album called “Revival,” which is the first with Interscope Records.  No longer with Disney, Selena is really moving on.

Starting out at the age of seven on the television show, “Barney and Friends,”  she also spent four seasons on the Disney show, “The Wizards of Waverley Place.”  She had a long-standing contract with Disney’s Hollywood Records where she made four albums.

But that was then and now she has grown up.

In a recent New York Times article, her BFF Taylor Swift said, “In the last two years, I’ve seen Selena start to make her career her own.  She’s separated her opinion out and prioritized it above anyone else’s.  Her childhood was defined by working hard, with the major business decisions primarily being made by others.  The coolest part of watching her grow up has been seeing her gradually take the creative reins and start to steer the ship.”

Gomez  is actually listed on the album as executive producer and writer of six of the songs.  Other songwriters on the album include Mattman & Robin, Hit Boy, Benny Blanco, Julia Michaels, and Chloe Angelides.

According to her press kit for this new album, “Every pop star says their new album is their most personal yet, but in showing off the deeper side of her voice, Selena Gomez seems to really mean it with REVIVAL. On the finger-snapping n “Same Old Love,” the follow-up to this summer’s sexy slow-burner “Good for You,” Gomez delivers a feisty breakup anthem that borrows some shouty energy from co-writer and “I Love It” hitmaker Charli XCX.   Same old pop song this is not.”

Lead single on “Revival” is “Good for You,” which hit number one on Billboard’s pop chart and landed at number five on the Hot 100 this summer.  With this new album, Gomez definitely takes a different track than her time at Disney.  She’s grown up and sounding it.
