Now that students have completed one semester of their AP classes, it is time to sign up for AP exams. There are many benefits of taking AP exams, including: standing out in college admissions, earning college credit, saving time and money, and helping students prepare for college. There are more than 30 AP courses students can study and test in that can directly relate to college majors and careers. The AP scoring scale ranges from a 1-5, with a 5 being the highest score (extremely well qualified), 4 listed as well qualified, 3 as qualified, 2 as possibly qualified, and 1 as the lowest score (no recommendation).

The first two weeks of May are when AP testing takes place. The morning exams start at 7:15 am and the afternoon exams start at 12:00 pm. If there is a conflict with two exams scheduled for the same time, students can contact the AP coordinator, Mr. Brodrick.

There are a few rules for AP testing that all testers should review before registering for the exam including when to arrive, how to behave in the testing room, the types of calculators and materials that are allowed in the testing room, and the no cheating policies. A student ID or government ID must be brought on testing day. All of the details are included in the AP Registration Packet that can be received from the AP coordinator in the Commons office. There are some qualifications for registration including:

  • You make not take both Calculus AB and Calculus BC within the same school year
  • If two of your exams are scheduled for the same day, you must ask your AP coordinator to schedule a late-testing day
  • You cannot retake an exam in the same year, but you can repeat an exam in a subsequent year.

There are many resources and helpful materials to help students successfully prepare for their exams, including the practice questions located on the college board websites, released practices tests from previous years, review books, and AP flash cards. You can currently sign up for the AP exam by stopping by at the commons office to pick up a registration packet. Regular registration ends on February 28th, 2017 and late Registration ends on March 8th, 2017, so make sure to pick up a packet and sign up as soon as possible! Online payment is the easiest and most convenient where you can sign up on www.TotalRegistarction.net. You can also pay by check on March 1st and 2nd during both lunches and March 8th for late registration. The fee for each exam is $93.

Once  signed up, it is extremely important to receive a confirmation page from Total Registration and both student and parents sign the AP Testing Procedures page, that can be found in the Commons office, and turn it into the appropriate box in the Commons Office by 3:00 pm on March 1st.
