Hilary Woo is no ordinary tennis player. At Clements she is part of many clubs and organizations including Red Cross, Habitat for Humanity, Interact, NHS and student council. Outside of school she enjoys hanging out with friends, baking & filming YouTube videos.

Hilary started playing tennis in elementary school, at the age of seven, but she was never super serious about tennis. She says her Dad and her sister was the main reason that she started playing tennis. Ever since then she has been playing tennis for 10 years on and off. She started playing in Clements during 9th grade on the freshman team, JV during 10th & 11th grade and she’s now playing varsity 2 as a senior.

“I like to plan ahead how, this helps me balance school life with my sport life” said Hilary. “If I know that I’m going to be gone for a tennis tournament, I like to ask my teachers for my work ahead of time so that I won’t be behind when I come back.” said Hilary.

“I would say that it’s probably when I’m playing against a really good team, and I’m losing by a lot, but I know I have to keep trying no matter what” said Hilary.

Her advice for people who want to join tennis next year is to practice during summer. “I think the only way to get better is by practicing” said Hilary.

“The season is already halfway over, but we’ve done well and I think some people will do really good and go to state” said Hilary when asked about her team this year.

In college Hilary plans to study nutrition, “I would like to study nutrition in college because it is important to keep track of one’s body” said Hilary. As of tennis, she currently doesn’t have any plans to continue playing tennis in college or as a career in the future.

“My most memorable memory is all the tournaments, especially the spring tournaments.” said Hilary. She also said that making a lot of new friends in tennis in another very memorable experience she won’t forget.
