Studying is nothing new for Clements students. With our school’s rigorous classes and homework, students often get burnt out studying for long periods of time. As a senior, I’ve realized how important it is to take breaks, treat yourself, and find a welcoming environment where you can enjoy a cup of coffee or a sweet treat alongside studying.
Kohiko Coffee House is a newly opened cafe that serves both traditional coffee and Japanese speciality drinks. The cafe puts a spin on the well-known matcha latte, incorporating unique flavors like banana bread and espresso in their drink ‘Moshi Moshi.’ As an indecisive person, I was initially overwhelmed by the unique selection, but I appreciated how the menu highlights details such as the aroma, flavor-profile, and mouthfeel of drinks. I ended up ordering the ‘Houjicoco’ made from Houjicha, which is Japanese green tea roasted in porcelain over charcoal. Although on the sweeter side, I enjoyed the slightly nutty and almost umami-ness of the drink. If you’re like me and you don’t have a big sweet tooth, I would recommend ordering with less maple syrup!
In regards to the vibes of Kohiko, I really enjoyed the warm ambience. There were tables as well as study pods that were all packed on one side of the cafe. While I do think this place is nice to catch up with friends or for grab-and-go, it may be a bit too crowded and lively for a study spot. If you are looking to claim a study pod, I would recommend heading there really early, especially on weekends. The bustling place really reflects Kohiko’s high quality drinks—definitely stop by to try their niche flavors and premium teas!
