Capstone spring action begins

Capstone+spring+action+begins

Zehra Jaffari, Student Life Editor

Ranging from business, mental, political, or even current topics and problems, GSA Capstone is a class for students to engage in community events, problems, and interact and assist in service events while being involved in a year-long project. At Clements, Capstone is a class only available for students in the Global Studies Academy, and this year there have been many projects that students are excited to share with the community and district. Capstone assists students in starting their careers and involving themselves in their interests. Additionally, it allows the seniors to interact with others to examine and discuss opportunities and challenges in the world.

After year-long research and development of a topic, information, and organizing an event to effectively host a event and raise proper funds, activities, and involvement from the community, students in Capstone have started their Spring Action Projects. Currently, during the second semester, all students are required to host and acquire participants in their events. From the International Law Clinic, Kindness Matters, and the various other projects that have recently just took place, many students have successfully informed students, parents, teachers, and people of the community about their topics and the impact to help change and participate in in these areas of interest. For example, in the Capstone event of Kindness Matters, not only did they do a survey of the audience about how they view people with mental illnesses, but they also had participants bring shirts to donate. Some events with an accompanying fee, donate all proceeds to an organization that complements the area of research.

Various Capstone events, relating to the topic and subject, are advertised and intensified by offering extra credit for various classes, points for Student Council and National Honors Society, and volunteering is even available at some events. Some events do require that students bring an item, permission slip, or complete an accompanying assignment along with attending.

Not only are these students ready to finish off their year-long projects, but they cannot wait for people to learn, enjoy, and participate in the topics that they enjoy most. Students in Fort Bend and at Clements can attend some of the upcoming events below, some of which are for extra credit and points for organizations:
