“When America is united, America is totally unstoppable… We will not fail. Our country will thrive and prosper again.” On Friday, January 20th, 2017, Donald J. Trump was inaugurated into the White House.

In his inaugural speech, Trump spoke of a strong and fearless America.

“There should be no fear. We are protected… by the great men and women of our military and law enforcement and, most importantly, we will be protected by God.” Trump said.

Throughout his speech, it was mentioned that before entering the next four years of responsibility, he wants to start by spreading a feeling of unity and showing his compassion towards every citizen of the United States.

Trump says, “Whether we are black or brown or white, we all bleed the same red blood of patriots… and we all salute the same great American flag,” In closing, mimicking his campaign, he says, “Together we will make America strong again. We will make America wealthy again. We will make America proud again. We will make America safe again. And, yes, together, we will make America great again.”

While many people were celebrating the peaceful transfer of power by coming to the inauguration, parade, and parties, others were displaying their disapproval in riots and marches across America. Like before, considering everything connected to this year’s presidential election, people did not shy away from showing their dislike towards the new president. Hundreds of protesters gathered together in hate and fear around the country by vandalizing businesses and cars and physically hurting the people gathered around in celebration. The acts of violence forced the police to react in self-defence with pepper spray and tear gas. According to an article by USA Today, there were 217 arrests and six officer injuries in as a result of the engagement.

This morning, President Donald Trump took to twitter saying, “Peaceful protests are a hallmark of our democracy. Even if I don’t always agree, I recognize the rights of people to express their views.”

While some people of this nation started a new presidency on a negative and violent note, it is satisfying to see that the president is not following suit, but rather, taking the higher road and focusing solely on the his new presidential responsibility.

Here’s to the next four years of peace, prosperity, unity, and strength for the president of this wonderful nation, for the citizens who continue to shape the United States to become what it is today, and for the nation itself.
