“56 Days” is an adapted book series on Prime Video. All the different elements of mystery, love and psychological questions elevate the story. Throughout the eight episodes we see all the different point of views of the characters and how they have gotten to where they are now. In the opening scene we see a dead body and the entire time as you’re watching the show, you try to figure out who it is. This element makes the show involve its audience as the detectives in the show are trying to find the killer and the victim, so are they.
The directors did a good job on allowing the audience to question the plot and be surprised when something happens. The plot twist they set up was delivered very well and many fans including myself were in shock when they revealed it. They also did a good job not revealing anything in the early episodes of who the victim was so we would have to keep watching till the end to figure it out.
The main characters, Oliver Kennedy and Ciara Wyse, are both living in Boston for a chance to start a new life. As they get to know each other, the audience gets to know both characters’ true identities and see how twisted both of their minds are. Oliver was a troubled kid who did not know how to deal with his emotions, which continued as he grew up. Ciara is a woman who values justice and knows how to manipulate people. Once the characters get to know each other, they both start to see each other as a crazy person, which elevates the dynamic of their relationship. This development allows the psychological tension to be very high and emphasizes how neither of them can trust each other.
The show does a great job conveying intense moments and unpredictable scenes. The chemistry between the main characters feels natural and you can see the depth of their love for each other. When they reveal their secrets to the audience it makes us question if their love will last or not. Another strong part of the series is how they reveal new information each episode that makes us wonder who might be dead. This lets us explore all the different options of the characters and leaves us excited for the next episode.
My favorite episode is the seventh one because it shows us the real truth of what actually happened. The whole episode shows us a flashback on the day that changed both characters’ lives. As the truth unravels we are still confused who’s dead body it was. It also allows us to have a new villain in the story based on the flashback that was shown to us.
Overall, “56 Days” is an adaptation that blends mystery, romance and psychological elements into a story that keeps you thinking long after the episode is over. It’s the kind of show that makes you want to rewatch scenes just to catch the clues you missed the first time. If you enjoy plot twists, complex characters and stories that keep you guessing, this series is definitely worth watching.
