A song I have been listening to lately is “What Do You Mean” by Justin Bieber. It was on the radio twice today just this afternoon. A few years ago, when I was in elementary school, Bieber got really famous for the song “Baby.” It broke the record on YouTube for the most viewed video and also the most disliked video, and today it is the second most viewed video with over 1 billion views! In a short period of time he had a lot of fans, but also a lot of haters mainly because his voice, though like a boy’s, was still somewhat feminine. Over the years he’s become more famous and released a couple of other songs. A few years ago, he said he was going to retire and after his break from releasing albums, he’s made a great comeback with the famous single “What Do You Mean.”

I think the main reason this song became a hit soon after its release is because there were so many celebrities advertising it a month before it’s actually release date. This somewhat created a hype on the internet. Everyday there were countdowns on Instagram and he got some famous celebrities like Shaquille O’neal, Miley Cyrus and Ariana Grande to countdown for him. Even people who don’t follow him had a great chance of noticing his release of a new single because of the hype that was created. After the release,  people found out that the style of Bieber’s music changed quite a lot, and his music video seems much more mature than before. I personally think it is a very catchy song with lyrics that are easy to remember, but to me, it’s not the greatest song on the radio right now. The song is now the number one hit on both the iTunes and the Spotify charts. When viewing the music video’s comment section, it is evident that many listeners are beginning to enjoy Bieber’s new style of music. Maybe it’s because of his change in personality and he’s not the “boy” he was a few years ago. This single will definitely be a milestone in his career, and hopefully the songs he releases in the future will be even better.
