March is National Nutrition Month. Organized by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, this is an annual educational campaign to promote the importance of making informed food choices and focuses the public’s attention to forming a set of better dietary and eating habits.

The theme of this year’s campaign is “Put Your Best Fork Forward.” According to www.eatright.org, the topic this year is to remind people that they hold a tool in their hand to make good food choices. Corresponding to the 2015-2020 Dietary Guidelines for Americans and the Myplate campaign put out by the US department of Agriculture, the National Nutrition Month campaign this year suggest people to make small shifts in their food choices, and then transition into a lasting, healthier lifestyle as time add up.

For most people, these small changes are much easier to sustain over a lifetime than trying to follow a particular diet for a short period of time and then resuming to the original eating behaviors. By “putting your best fork forward, ” the creators of this campaign urge Americans to start making better food choices and shifting toward a healthier lifestyle for themselves and their families now.
