Running into Cross Country Season

Running into Cross Country Season

Claire Myers, Editor In Chief

Cross Country, or any type of long distance running, seems like a painful enjoyment for most of the human race. It takes a lot of effort, skill, determination and many other qualities to keep people running regularly. To find out more about how much work it takes to be involved on the cross country team, the Round Up interviewed Ty Kennington, a member of the Clements team, to find out more information.

The cross country team starts their practices at 6:40am on most mornings, and they practice for six days a week, with Sunday off for rest. They are in charge of keeping themselves hydrated during the week in order to be prepared and in shape for their meets, which vary depending on the week.

Kennington said, “Running is not my favorite, but self-improvement is always important and cross country helps with that.” Running helps everyone feel good about themselves, and the more that someone runs, the better and better they will get, which goes into the self-improvement category.

The cross country team runs different distances to in order to condition and get ready to run their, on average, 3.1 mile long races. The season continues from August 20th, until November 12th, which is the state championships.

Kennington believes that the cross country team will do well this year, but the team needs to work as hard as they can and work to get in shape in order to succeed. Although, he sees lots of potential in all of his teammates. Hopefully, this will turn out just the way he sees it.
