The Fort Bend County Fair Parade, a tradition that has continued for over 80 years, is a 2.5 mile march to celebrate the kickoff of the county fair, held from Richmond to Rosenberg on September 27.
The marching band and color guard marched the parade, performing the entire time to the crowd that lined the streets.
“My favorite part was seeing people’s faces light up as we passed them,” junior Kavya Shah said. “It made me feel really good.”
As the band made their way through the parade route, people would wave and cheer, some would even clap along to the tunes they played. This was the first time for current marching band students to play in the parade.
“It allowed for our band to try and experience something fun with friends,” Shah said.
Not only is the parade exciting to watch, but the band also benefited from participating in the event.
“The parade was a great way for the band to connect with the community,” junior Landon Bynum said. “[The parade] allowed the students to demonstrate their talents to the public.”
The annual parade brings the community together in celebration. As colorful floats adorned with local themes stride down the streets, and marching bands that bring lively music, memories are being made. Families gather to celebrate this cherished tradition, and kick off a joyful time of carnival rides, good food, and thrilling rodeo events.
For students participating in the parade, it is also an exciting way to show school spirit.
“I loved chanting the fight song,” Shah said. “I was excited to represent Clements, I think it was a really cool opportunity that not many can say they have done.”
