Tryouts for the dance team were held on May 4 and students got their results on May 6. Some students made Twinkles and others moved up from Twinkles to Stars.
“When I saw I made Stars I was super happy about it because I put a lot of effort into trying out and finding out that I made the team makes me feel accomplished with myself,” sophomore Camila Valdivieso said. “To prepare I would practice every day for maybe two to three hours.”
Coaches determined who made what team based on a dance that students learned themselves and performed during the audition.
“The main difference from going from Twinkles to Stars is that overall there is going to be more things to do and I expect it to require more of my time,” Validvieso said. “The activities and dances are going to be more complex and challenging and the costumes for Stars are also different from the ones in Twinkles.”
If a student made it to Twinkles, they would have dance practice 1st period. On the other hand, Stars have their dance practice during the 7th period. Both teams, Stars and Twinkles, allow students to improve their skills, dance with their friends as a team, build relationships, and explore the art of dance.
“I tried out because I’m super passionate about dance and have a lot of friends on the team that make it even better,” sophomore Joey Yao said. “This was an opportunity for me to become closer to them in a sport that I care about and enjoy doing.”
