JV and varsity girls soccer have a game after school today, Jan. 31, at Ridge Point.

“Last season we ended third in districts and we lost in the first round of playoffs to Katy Tompkins,” girls varsity coach Robert Boagni said. “So this year, our goal is to get higher in districts, first or second, and to have a playoff win.”

Last season, girls JV coach Todd Francis said the JV and Varsity teams had some “bumps” due to some injuries early on.

“This year, one of the things that has made our program a little bit better is having that depth, really for both our Varsity and our JV, to where if someone gets hurt, we have a good plan on what to do,” Francis said.

Despite falling short of last year’s expectations, this year, they’re determined to succeed.

“We definitely have some youth on our team, but like I said, I think we are a better team this year,” Francis said. “I’m really excited about this year’s team, and I think we’ve had some early tournament success for both Varsity and JV and some pretty high expectations. I think as long as the girls stay together and work hard together, we’ll be able to accomplish our goals.”

Their first game was last Tuesday against George Ranch where the JV team took home a 6-0 win.

“This season I am definitely looking forward to playing and hanging out with an amazing group of talented players,” JV captain Ani Dhaliwal said. “It’s been very exciting to see everyone’s talents shine through.”

The captain for two years, Dhaliwal has seen the JV team grow and can attest to their dedication to win this season. The JV team currently has a lot of goals in place that they are hoping to accomplish.

“I’m looking forward to the rest of the season,” JV player Kashvi Nitin said. “Especially for some of the harder games such as Travis.”

The team has been able to fulfill their goals so far, and want to improve their chemistry as a team as well. Their wins have been motivating them to do better and have brought them closer.

“I’m just looking forward to good district games,” Francis said. “I always get excited about the playoff game. Seeing fans in the stands is important and makes those games exciting. So any of those exciting, close games, I get really excited for myself.”
