Clements men’s soccer kicked off their season by visiting George Ranch to play their season opener. The match was held on January 9th.

It could’ve been a huge win for the Rangers as they have failed to beat George Ranch since the 2020-2021 season. The Rangers managed to come back from a two-goal deficit but lost the game in penalties and left with one point.

“George ranch is always a strong opponent, just gotta make sure that the boys keep their heads and go into the next games with intensity,” Coach Dallas Killingsworth said.

The rangers followed up George Ranch with longtime rivals Elkins High School at home to see who could take the three points. The Rangers fell short 0-2 to the knights to make the season 0-1-1.

“Nothing beats playing Elkins at home, it sucks that we didn’t get the result that we wanted, but I promise to our fans that we will come back stronger,” captain Chris McMeans said.

On match week number two, the Rangers faced Austin High School who are projected to finish top 4 in the district, and Travis High School. The Rangers tied the game 3-3 and took the win in the penalty shootout.

“Austin is always one of the hardest games of the year, they just always come in with so much passion, even with their fans,” senior Varun Challa said. “It felt good to take away two points from the current district leaders.”

In the final game of the month, Travis took down the Rangers 3-2 which put Clements’ record to 0-2-2.

“Man, it is really unfortunate that our season started off like this, but we are barely one-fourth into the season,” captain Julyen Broussard said. “I know what this group is capable of, and we are going to get it done.”
