Fans of the Lady Rangers Softball Team will definitely spot Addie Goldwait as she leads her team on the field. Goldwait, a senior, has been on the Clements Varsity Softball Team for four years and fellow players say she has quite an impact.

Addie started playing T-ball at age three, and a couple years later, she started softball when she was only fiveyears old. She began playing in a league at Oak Hill GSA when she was living near  Austin and has enjoyed playing the sport since. The athlete says she is hyper competitive and admires the idea of softball not only being an individual sport but a team sport as well.

“ I like to think I’m a hard worker,” said Goldwait. “ I go to OSP which is a strength and agility class every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, and I do work outside of practice whether it’s hitting at home, doing extra lessons or staying after practice for more reps.”

Addie‘s hard work has paid off with her talent on the field.  Goldwait is a very versatile player and has come to know and play all the softball positions including third base, outfield, catcher, and second base. Currently the third person in the lineup, she is looking forward to the upcoming softball season.

“Even though we’ve lost a lot of seniors this year, I still feel confident that we’ll still win district as we have our past years. Our main goal this season is get through round 2 of playoffs.” Goldwait shares,” she said.

Although this player has made many memories with the Clements team throughout the years, one in particular stands out for her. Goldwait described her favorite memory being all the times in the dugout when the girls would bring drumsticks and during the game the team would sing songs instead of cheers during a game.

“Sometimes we’d sing some pitch perfect songs and also others.”

Goldwait also shared how positively affected her life has been because of softball.

“We’re a tight knit organization. We’re serious about getting better, but it’s also a lot of fun. After a long day of quizzes or tests, it’s nice to have a team to come to blow off some steam.”

Goldwait has earned many recognitions and awards for her outstanding work and talent in her sport. She has won all-district for the past three years, was recently voted first team for infield and for the past two years her teammates have given her the “hustle” award.

Beyond her incredible athletic skill, she enjoys Comp-Sci II.  She also has a great time coaching a 12U softball team in her free time at the SLGA.

Fans are looking forward to another outstanding performance in the season ahead from Goldwait and her teammates.
