The U.S. Census Bureau released the final results of the 2020 Census on Monday. In accordance with the Bureau’s findings, the 435 seats in the House of Representatives have been reapportioned, with two going to Texas.

North Carolina, Florida, Colorado, Oregon, and Montana are also each getting a new seat. The reapportionment is in line with the population growth in the South and West, potentially giving GOP strongholds more power. On the other hand, California and New York each lost a seat, with five more “Rust Belt” states losing one each. In line with the decline of American manufacturing, Michigan, Pennsylvania, Illinois, Ohio, and West Virginia each lost a seat.

Although less than the expected number of seats (3), the new seats serve to make Texas a greater political powerhouse. With its current status moving towards being a swing state, Texas politics will certainly be exciting.
