During my spring break, I found myself pondering over what to watch, luckily I remembered that I have been recently receiving short clips/snippets of an upcoming Pixar mini series called “Win or Lose”. I decided to give it a watch, and I was blown away by the quality of story and animation from the mini-series.
The main plot revolves around a middle school co-ed softball team that are preparing for their championship game, their first time making it to this stage in a long while. Now while the premise may be cliche, what really sets this story apart from other stories, is how each episode of this series is told in the perspective of a different character. This allows for more exploration of each character’s emotional and physical struggles, fears, expectations and hopes.
As expected, the studio behind this series, Pixar, did an amazing job on animation. They really set up high hopes for animated mini-series such as this one for its ability to maintain a world that is very expressive, round and filled to the brim with colors and charm. This can be especially seen with how each episode has its own set of art style and influences that reflect lovely to the character that stars in it. It adds a layer of world depth and flavor that is often seemingly forgotten in most animated series.
The writing is equally as good or even better, since it keeps every character with a heartfelt and witty personality that keeps me and others entertained, while balancing how to effectively deliver important messages that resonate with anyone across all ages. Every member of the cast contributes to the show in a deep and meaningful way, and shows that even the smallest of struggles can be felt in huge waves.
Overall the story was cute and lovely with a good lesson and morals all backing it up. I recommend it to anyone who is interested in a cute and wholesome story.
