Clements Gets Face Lift
September 15, 2016
It’s time to fix up Clements. The school is undergoing renovations of all kinds. CHS is currently receiving new carpets and wall coverings for the band and orchestra hall, a new security system, and a replacement in the school’s air conditioning and plumbing systems. Along with that, everyone can also look forward to new graphics and painting in the cafeteria and school hallways.
The school received the necessary funds for all of this when in 2014, a bond election was held by the district that was approved to give each of the Fort Bend schools the amount of money they needed. Clements was granted money that not only was needed for necessary restorations, such as the air conditioning and plumbing units, but for what “our school deserves,” said Principal David Yaffie.
One renovation Clement’s is receiving is the new and up-to-date security system. CHS has recently installed new video cameras that include high quality and color visuals. The school hopes to install new “safety tents,” which prevent shattered windows, as well as establishing vestibules or double doors that will be placed at the front and attendance office doors.
The band and orchestra hall are receiving completely new carpeting and wall coverings that “provide a proper acoustical sound,” according to Yaffie. New lighting will also be implemented in the orchestra room. On the other hand, the library and commons office are getting updated as well with new carpeting to give it a more modern look.
Yaffie said, “ Some [renovations] are simply maintenance that has to be done every ten or so years.” CHS is currently working on an updated air conditioning system with the old air handlers being replaced, along with refitting the water pipes in the plumbing system.
Lastly, the school will have a lot of painting done. Throughout the hallways, and especially the commons, there will be fresh coats of paint soon. If everything goes to schedule, CHS hopes to paint new graphics in the cafeteria during winter break.
“We’ve been pushing for upgrades, and we’re getting them finally,” said Yaffie. Some upgrades are needed and it’s the time to replace them and others are simply because the school needs them.
