As graduation is quickly approaching for many students, the excitement for new beginnings fills the air, with students interested in careers from innovative tech startups to compassionate healthcare workers.
For seniors, college applications are being sent in, careers are having to be decided, and the deadline to decide their future is fast approaching. This can be very stressful but there are ways to lessen the load and understand the choices you are making.
“I am very calculated and planned,” senior Ava Aliyari said. “By this I mean I am very organized in my head in how things are supposed to work out and always have a plan to override my struggles.”
For some students that know what they want to do, the future involves creativity and entrepreneurship.
“I would like to pursue the business market, in hopes of opening my own business.” Aliyari said.
To some it may mean traveling the world.
“I’ve always been drawn to the idea of traveling the world while helping others,” senior Anita Dada said. “Becoming a flight attendant has been my career choice for a while.”
For others, uncertainty looms.
“There are so many paths,” senior Misaki Murase said. “It feels overwhelming to choose just one.”
There are an abundance of clubs that students can join to help gain an interest in something. Exploring these interests not only broadens perspective, but it can also aid students in discovering something that they are truly passionate about. Many clubs will also help develop the needed skills to enter the workforce.
“Extracurriculars prepared me for problem-solving, but I had to work a few summer jobs to understand customer service,” Dada said.
Clubs aren’t the only thing students can do to fill a resume; internships and volunteering can also provide you with valuable experience that will impress future employers. Getting involved in the community not only builds skills but it also creates a sense of belonging and friendship. However, in order to reap those benefits, Aliyari has needed an active mindset.
“I am very much a go-getter and when I have my mind set, I will get it,” Aliyari said.
