Old clothes could change a life.
From October 23 to 31, the National Green Schools Club are hosting a clothing drive in Room 2214. This initiative aims to provide clothing to those in need, promoting environmental sustainability and educating students about eco-friendly practices.
“We are accepting all gently used clothing, like shirts, pants, socks, and others, which will be distributed to local community-based organizations that are in need,” National Green Schools Society Treasurer Jaiveer Singh said.
Two out of 5 American children struggle to dress themselves properly each day, according to Cradles to Crayons. However, only 28% of people donate used clothing.
“We need to start making donation as a part of our culture,” sponsor Adriana Stanescu said.
The clothing drive welcomes donations of all gently used items, including shirts, pants, and socks. These contributions will be distributed to local organizations that support community members in need.
“We need to give a purpose to our clothing drive,” Stanescu said. “It’s not just about cleaning out our closets; it’s about understanding the impact of our choices.”
National Green Schools Society Vice President Taniya Mehta emphasized that the clothing drive is for the “community.” The clothing drive supports recycling and reduces waste by giving new life to items that might otherwise end up in landfills.
“It’s heartbreaking to see some students without warm clothes, especially during colder months,” senior Sadaf Mejat said.
Mejat wants to get involved in the clothing drive because she wants to make a positive impact in her community.
“Every little effort, count, and participation in the clothing drive can help make a real difference in our community and the environment,” Mehta said.
