Sophomore George Jreissaty’s performance is electric.
Jreissaty’s journey to becoming the Varsity Football Team’s Running Back began in seventh grade. Even then, Head Coach Robert Darnell said he knew Jreissaty had something special.
“He definitely had an athletic ability that I knew was going to be a positive translation to high school,” Darnell said. “He had a great freshman year, he did well in our off-season program. I knew we were going to have to elevate him to varsity for his sophomore year.”
Jreissaty describes himself as an “energetic” athlete, who is “always hyper around everyone, especially on the field.” He said his coaches, teammates, and his parents have helped him become a better player because they always support him, and they want to make sure that he is healthy at all times.
“His play is showing that he has definitely earned the respect of many in the district and should have earned the respect of everybody on the team,” Darnell said.
Sophomore and Quarterback Trey Rivera of the Varsity Football Team said Jreissaty is “always supportive,” and that he is always helping everyone.
“I just have that mindset of, I want to play for the team, not for myself,” Jreissaty said.
Rivera has known Jreissaty since 6th grade and has grown up with him. Over the years, he has seen the change in him, but one thing has always been the same.
“George has always been a very hardworking person,” Rivera said. “He’s always one of the first people out to practice, one of the last ones to leave. You can just always tell that he’s working hard.”
Jreissaty transfers his energy and his positive attitude off the field towards his friendships as well. Darnell said Jreissaty is a very “mild mannered” and “kind kid”.
“It’s never boring when you’re with George, which is a good thing,” Rivera said. “And I think he’s also a very supportive friend. He’s always there if you need to talk to someone.”
Rivera said that he would not be the same athlete and person he is today if he hadn’t met Jreissaty.
“Me and him have kind of grown together in our football journey,” Rivera said. “I don’t think I’d be where I am without him. He’s one of my best friends.”
One of Jreissaty’s long-term goals when it comes to athletics is to play football in college as either a running back or a receiver. In Darnell’s opinion, “The sky’s the limit for him”- Darnell said Jreissaty is “somebody worthy to be followed.”
“I feel like people look at me, especially younger kids,” Jreissaty said. “They look up at me and think of a role model outside of football too. I feel like football kind of shaped my personality and made me who I am.”
