Senior offensive lineman Armon Owens accepted a scholarship offer to Grambling State University to play football. They recruited him by watching his games and films and then offered him a scholarship. Owens signed on Feb. 7.
David Dwight Clayton: When did you sign?
Armon Owens: I signed a few days after the scouts were able to come.
DDC: What sports will you be playing in college?
AO: I will just be playing football.
DDC: What does your family think about you signing?
AO: They were extremely happy for me and are supporting me through.
DDC: If you were to play another position what would it be?
AO: I would play WR [wide receiver] because I think it would be fun too.
DDC: That was a big decision. Could you tell me what went into your decision to attend that school?
AO: My parents said it was a good school and I think it would be a lot of fun to go there and play for their football team.
DDC: What setbacks did you have when you were younger?
AO: I would have to say being a small, skinny kid, but then I started working out and got a lot stronger.
DDC: How did you overcome that setback while playing football in your childhood?
AO: I quit football for a while because my team kept losing so then I moved to basketball. I was really good at it but then I decided to go back to football. We started winning so I decided to stick with football.
DDC: Who was your role model as you were growing up and why?
AO: I would say it is Trent Williams because he has been one of the most aggressive linemen in the league and it inspired me to try to become like him and play aggressively like him while playing football.
DDC: What would you say you improved on this year?
AO: Flexibility in the weight room. I got a lot stronger, a lot faster, really everything from my blocking, and my screen game. My goal is to make it big in college.
