This year’s NBA Playoffs happened like no other year, it was the year of the bubble. NBA players went to the bubble in Orlando in late July to finish the rest of the 2019-2020 season under strange circumstances. Players arrived in Orlando for the bubble experience ahead of time from the season on July 7 to quarantine before the start of the season in the bubble on July 30. The bubble was different for everyone, limited media, team executives, NBA personnel, and of course, no fans. Those in the bubble had regular testing to make sure that there wouldn’t be any cases. The players had to be away from their families for weeks, but after the first round of playoffs, those who were still playing were allowed to bring up to 4 people if they decided. Though the bubble is in place and the situation is very new for everyone, this year’s playoffs were certainly entertaining. After weeks of playoff games the Miami Heat of the East, and the Los Angeles Lakers of the West, made it to the 2020 NBA Finals.
Throughout the playoffs the Heat surprised many, beating out the Milwaukee Bucks, which no one had expected. Before reaching the playoffs the Heat had gone 12-3 in the previous rounds, beating out the best teams in the East. But this year the Lakers were the favorite to win, leading Miami to be the underdogs.
It was game one of the finals kicking off September 30th, even after a good fight, Miami couldn’t come out victorious, leading the Lakers to take a 1-0 series lead. When game 2 came around the Heat still couldn’t shake off the Lakers and went down 0-2. Game 3, one of the most important in this series for the Heat if they still wanted to stay alive in the series, the Heat weren’t ready for the series to end and after putting on an amazing game they finally came out with a win, making the series 2-1. The Lakers went on to win game 4 giving them a 3-1 lead, but Miami wasn’t ready for the victory confetti going out that early, and took game 5, making the series 3-2. Now for the biggest game of the series, the Lakers could close it up and win their next championship, or the Heat could rally and take the series to 7 games. In the end, it wasn’t the latter.
Throughout the game, you could tell the Heat were struggling lots, by halftime they were down 36-64. The Heat tried to make up for their first half in the 3rd quarter to stay alive, but going into the 4th quarter they were already down 87-58. The Heat continued to fight, wanting to stay alive and get the championship, but the Lakers were just too good. In the end, the Lakers won the game 106-93. “That’s it, it’s over. This historic 2020 NBA Championship belongs to the Los Angeles Lakers.”, you could see the joy on the players’ faces as the whole team raced on the court for a celebratory group hug. The star of the game, Lebron James, went on to win Finals MVP. The Lakers dedicated their 17th franchise win to the late Kobe and Gianna Bryant, who sadly passed in a helicopter crash in January. The Lakers proved to everyone that they were a force to be reckoned with, especially with the greatness of the duo that is Lebron James and Anthony Davis.
Though the Lakers came out on top, there’s no denying the Heat has a lot of potential. With a young core shocked many teams with their talent, the Heat will surely be fighting next season for a championship. They were lead by the amazing leadership of Jimmy Butler, who arrived for his first season with the Heat, and ended up taking them to the finals.
Congratulations to the Los Angeles Lakers for their win!!!!
