Ho – Ho – Holidays in Houston are a spectacular extravaganza full of lights, laughter, and love. Every year the city serves up an array of formal events and festive activities to keep the spirit going in light of ‘tis season. The Houston Holiday Roundup 2016 involves a variety of performing arts, holiday festivals, holiday concerts, and museum exhibitions. From one Roundup to another, these are a must:

Performing Arts

A Christmas Carol – A Ghost Story of Christmas (November 19 – December 29). The story of a Christmas Carol is the ultimate classic that is passed down this time around, reminding people how to be thankful and loving every year. Recreated at the Alley Theatre in Downtown Houston, this theatrical masterpiece brings tears, wonder, joy, and beauty to what the holidays really stand for.

Houston Ballet’s The Nutcracker (November 25 – December 27). The Nutcracker Ballet needs no introduction. This ensemble of graceful movements, genius music compositions, and artistic design is every reason to watch this beautiful performance.

This, however, is not the end of theatre displays all throughout this season; there’s a variety of Christmas/ Holiday fables that entertain an evening of art!

Holiday Festivals

Zoo Lights (November 18 – January 14). Each year the Houston Zoo creates their own Winter Wonderland with hundreds of lights and holiday accompaniments. Visitors roam the zoo, enjoying complimentary hot chocolate, admiring the light displays; talk about a photo opp.!

Sugar Land Holiday Lights (November 25 – January 8). This light show is fairly recent, as it will be the third year now that the City of Sugar Land is putting on a light display at Constellation Field. It may not be as well-known as Zoo Lights or the Festival of Lights in Moody Gardens, but this event showcases over 2.5 million lights. Don’t miss it!

In addition to these two events, Houston is home to other famous lights shows and events that keep the crowds coming.

Holiday Concerts

Christmas at the Villa (December 13 – December 14). Presenting the Chamber Choir, this Houston tradition provides audiences an evening of carols and holiday classics. Joining the choir this year is recent Carnegie Hall debut, The Treble Choir, under direction of Marianna Parnas – Simpson; it’s going to be a show like none other.

For all the music lovers, Houston offers more carols and traditional music entertainment around the city.

Museum Exhibitions

Milk and Cookies with Santa (December 24). People of all ages (yes, adults can believe in Santa, too) gather at the Children’s Museum of Houston to spend Christmas Eve with Santa. Before he embarks on his journey to deliver presents, come enjoy a day of laughter and heartwarming innocence as children eat milk & cookies with their favorite Christmas ‘character’.

Additional Holiday Fun

Ice at Discovery Green (November 22 – February 12). Discovery Green park is one of Houston’s hotspots for concerts, picnics, and this time around, ice-skating! Whether you know how to ice-skate or not, be ready for laughs and bruises that’ll be worth it. Grab a group of friends and skate, skate, skate!

There are close to hundreds more events all over Houston that are symbolic of the holidays. Be ready for a day you’ll never forget!

Walkin’ around Hous-ton city, have a ha-ppy holiday!
